Bison Supplies Precast Concrete Products for Residential Regeneration Scheme
Bison Manufacturing is working closely with Gentoo Construction to supply its precast Hollowcore flooring and staircase products for a £7.5million regeneration scheme in Alnwick, Northumberland.
Bison is providing 5,579m2 of Hollowcore alongside 26m3 of staircases for the upper level areas of the development. The mixed use development for Gentoo Homes includes 51 one and two bedroom apartments, 18 affordable homes and provision for seven new retails units totalling 28,000 sq ft.
The ability of Bison’s Hollowcore flooring to insulate against airborne sound transfer was a strong factor in the business winning the precast contract for the scheme. Capable of resisting airborne sound with no additional insulation, Bison’s Hollowcore product was installed on-site and then fixed with an impact-resistant membrane to further improve the acoustic performance of the precast units – an important factor given the number of apartments included in the development.
“This has been quite a complex project in terms of the engineering details and disproportionate collapse requirements, but Bison have handled all of our queries very well. Installation has progressed well on-site. We’re now entering the final stages of the project and we’re pleased with how things have progressed.”
“This is an interesting project in a prime location within Alnwick,” adds Norman Brown, Sales and Estimating Leader at Bison Manufacturing. “We’ve worked with Gentoo previously on a number of schemes and we’re delighted to team up again on this regeneration project. Our precast products are well suited to residential projects and our Hollowcore floor units offer excellent performance in terms of structural capability and sound insulation, particularly within multi-occupancy developments.”
